FUTURA X is bringing WAVERUNNERS to Dallas

One of the most exciting things happening in wave music right now is a little group called FUTURA X. And no, I don't just mean their upcoming WAVERUNNERS event that's scheduled for this weekend. Though, let's be honest... that show is going to be amazing. Introducing: FUTURA X Based in Dallas, FUTURA X is responsible for hosting some of the most impeccable wave events in the United States. This wave music collective curates uniquely diverse lineups for each event that they put on. They have even collaborated with other passionate wave music superpromoters like Tears in the Club and vibe.digital on some occasions, including the recent skeler tour stop in Dallas. Bolstering wave community seems to be FUTURA X's primary goal, and I would definitely say that they are accomplishing it...

Nick Neutronz Experiments With Two-Sided Single, ‘IDRIVE // AASMR’

Legendary underground music producer, Nick Neutronz, is back at it again with his newest release, a two-sided experiment, IDRIVE // AASMR. Drawing influence from both phonk and wave this time, Neutronz created something that's dark, sexy, and even a bit magical. Don't miss out. Stream IDRIVE // AASMR by Nick Neutronz on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/1F89Q2prvnAzlM66c979Zx?si=_9aRJ3ypQcOk4FnEU-INHg This new single sees Nick Neutronz putting a fresh spin on two different genres within one release. The A-side, "IDRIVE," channels more of a groovy, nostalgic phonk sound, whereas the B-side, "AASMR," leans more wavy and melodic. While you can notice the shift from one song into the next, the two songs do end up blending together into one well-curated piece, if yo...

Nick Neutronz Gives Us Some Perspective in “The Changes”

In case you missed it, Nick Neutronz is 'back on his bullshit', as the kids say. He released "The Changes" earlier this month, and quite frankly, it changed me. Nick Neutronz is someone we all really need to keep a better eye on--because when Nick puts out new music, we can never know what to expect. In the best possible way. Let's look at some examples from 2022: in December, he put out this dark, moody, lights-down-low-at-the-club type banger of a collab with lonewulf, "Pyrex". Yet, in June, Nick dropped this little high-tempo, all-encompassing, like-an-emotional-plea-but-could-still-probably-end-up-on-the-radio track called "Surrender". But, let's not forget how he started the year off, either--with "Hikikomori". Alessio Anesi of FUXWITHIT describes that song best: it's ...

Breaking Waves: Another Great Week for the Electronic Underground

2023 has been off to an incredible start, and it's all thanks to the electronic underground. On New Year's, we saw UFO.Wave drop their first mixtape; last weekend, we saw Cyberwave Collective's annual winter festival go live on Twitch. And now, we got some powerful new singles coming from the likes of MAYKO and Nick Neutronz. If only time could slow down a little so we can take it all in! Because trust me when I say that this is a pair of singles that you will want to take some time with. Let's dive in. A Week in Underground Hits: MAYKO & Nick Neutronz Getting new music this week from two of the artists who were part of what made 2022 so special was an incredible treat. MAYKO released his uplifting new single, "YOU GOT IT" on Wednesday, January 18th. The nex...

Breaking Waves: 2022 Wrapped — Top Wave Music of the Year, Artists to Watch + more.

Yes, yes-- another 2022 listacle. I know, how terrible. At least this time it's "the top 10 in wave music" of 2022 and not another copy-paste from Billboard, right? ....Right...? Regardless of how you feel about these Top 10 lists, I hope you'll spare a moment and take a peek at what I have for you, because each one of these wave/wave-adjacent artists absolutely deserves your time. I'll cut to the chase-- Let's Dive into Some of the Top Wave Music of 2022, Shall We? Before we begin, here's a playlist with samplings from each of the artists I mention below, for your listening pleasure: Top Wave Music of 2022, as seen on Spotify: 6ixsr When I about to depart for Liquid Ritual’s “Conference” this spring, I had put out an open ca...

Breaking Waves: Pantheon 2022, vol. 3. [Post-Pantheon Ponderings]

It’s absurd to me that Pantheon 2022 is already four weeks behind us. Between the holidays and the “Pantheon flu” so many of us ended up with, I suppose it makes sense that a month seemed to just blow by… but still!  Where did the time go?  Even now, there are some mornings, in those brief moments between sleep and consciousness, that I still dream that I’m going to wake up in Seattle– about to embark on what was a life-changing journey alongside so many members of the wave music community.  I don’t write that with hyperbole– Pantheon 2022 was genuinely a life-changing event for me.  This “Breaking Waves” entry is the first of many to explore life post-Pantheon 2022. This entry specifically contains my own musings about the experience, now that the festival ...
