Wave Wrapped: March 2023

We're back again for another edition of 'Breaking Waves: Wave Wrapped'--this time, we're bringing you some awesome wave music you might've missed from last month, March 2023. Last month was crazy for wave--Skeler finally dropped both editions of his incredible "N i g h t D r i v e" projects; the massive US-based "wave tour" (featuring Skeler, barnacle boi, and Brothel), brought to us by vibe.digital and kompass music group, was announced. Wave artists vowl., Kareful, and hyperforms--as well as father of wave music, Plastician--were featured at Belgium's Rampage festival as well, thanks to the efforts of the folks at Liquid Ritual...among other cool feats. Sit back and reminisce with me--and let's talk about some cool wavy releases that we may have missed along the way. Wave...

Wave in NYC: where to find Skeler, barnacle boi, Noah B & more on Friday.

The day has finally come: New York is getting a wave music showcase. This Friday, April 14th, NYC is getting emotional with Skeler and barnacle boi, as part of their US headline tour. Supporting them on this stop is local wave music champion, Noah B, and vibe.digital stars, KTrek and Djedi. While this massive tour also features Brothel as a headliner at many of the stops, he will not be playing in NYC this time around. However, Freshly announced is the addition of a special opening set by the one-and-only SBU. This is certainly going to be a night for the history books. Read on to get to know all the artists on this lineup. You will also find more information about wave in NYC, some interview content with Noah B... as well as the answer to that age-old question, "where's Skeler?!" ...

I Said I Wouldn’t, But I Actually Bought a Cassette Tape: on ‘Terminals’ by Druid & Jok.

Ya'll, I can't believe it, but I actually bought a cassette tape. On Bandcamp Friday. In March 2023. This makes no sense to me, especially since I've definitely gone on one too many rants that sound a little bit like this: "I can't do this anymore, I already did the cassette thing, and the CD thing, and now the oh-so-occasional vinyl thing--and now cassette is coming back, and I--I just can't keep doing this." Then along came Terminals, the new EP by Druid & Jok, out via Decaying Spheres at the beginning of the month... And it was getting a physical release. On cassette, of course. Ugh. The tape came in the mail the other day. and it hit me: I caved. I bought a cassette tape. I'm part of "the problem" now. And, as anticipated, I have absolutely no way of playing ...

Nick Neutronz Gives Us Some Perspective in “The Changes”

In case you missed it, Nick Neutronz is 'back on his bullshit', as the kids say. He released "The Changes" earlier this month, and quite frankly, it changed me. Nick Neutronz is someone we all really need to keep a better eye on--because when Nick puts out new music, we can never know what to expect. In the best possible way. Let's look at some examples from 2022: in December, he put out this dark, moody, lights-down-low-at-the-club type banger of a collab with lonewulf, "Pyrex". Yet, in June, Nick dropped this little high-tempo, all-encompassing, like-an-emotional-plea-but-could-still-probably-end-up-on-the-radio track called "Surrender". But, let's not forget how he started the year off, either--with "Hikikomori". Alessio Anesi of FUXWITHIT describes that song best: it's ...

Let me welcome you to "Wave Wrapped": a lil semi-monthly listacle of some songs that we feel may have been overlooked.
