Tribeca Film Festival 2022 Dispatch (Reviews)

The 21st annual Tribeca Film Festival has been been going on since June 8. The in-person portion of the event has ended, but the online "at home" programming continues through this weekend. I haven't had as much time as I would like to dive in to everything. I've focused so far on some of the excellent documentaries on the lineup. All of the films featured below had their World Premiere at Tribeca and are available to rent online for $15/each and are viewable through the Tribeca At Home app until Sunday, June 26. This was the 21st year of the Tribeca Film Festival. 'Butterfly in the Sky' Directors Bradford Thomason and Brett Whitcomb follow-up 'Jasper Mall' with this loving portrait of the long-running PBS series, 'Reading Rainbow.' Host LeVar Burton is interviewed alongs...

Your Guide to the Virtual 2022 Tribeca Film Festival

The 21st annual Tribeca Film Festival kicked off this week in New York City and they've opted to continue an "at home" component. That's good news for those of us who don't live in the area or couldn't travel in to see some great independent films. There are more screenings for 2022 than last year that are only happening in-person, but Tribeca At Home will still allow you to watch over 100 movies and short films from anywhere in the United States. How to Attend Online There are four ways to buy passes for online screenings and the prices are the same as they were last for last year's Tribeca Film Festival. Tribeca At Home Shorts Pass: watch all of the festival's short films for $25. Tribeca At Home Awards Pass: watch any of the films that win awards at the end of the fes...

Jukebox The Ghost Fall Tour Dates Announced

The new album is out now and the wait is over for the big tour announcement. Jukebox The Ghost will be hitting the road this fall in support of Cheers. The tour is set to kick off September 28th at Union Transfer in Philadelphia and run through October 18th at Neptune in Seattle. Thankfully they have a number of shows booked between now and then so fans can experience their new songs in person (sooner than later). On June 2nd they'll be performing an album release show at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn. They'll be streaming that show live on YouTube. That link can be found here. Other highlights include a June 25th date at the WYEP Summer Music Festival in Pittsburgh, The Gaslight Festival on Nantucket on August 2nd, and The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey on September 2nd....

New Mayday Parade Single Released Ahead Of Busy Summer Tour

An introspective new Mayday Parade single called "Losing My Mind" is available now. The band is gearing up for a busy summer with dates in the UK followed by a full US tour. "Losing My Mind" is an outtake from their 2021 studio release What It Means To Fall Apart. They teamed up with multi-platinum producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount on the project. According to co-vocalist/drummer Jake Bundrick, the song is 'about being alone and missing the one that got away.' I think we've all been there. The one-shot visualizer accompanying the single release might make you a little hungry. That is if you like cake. You can check that out below if you like. Mayday Parade teamed up with Dark Hearth (AFI, Tony Hawk) on the visuals. The first 3+ minutes show the cake being made and is oddly ...

The Blue Stones Announce Coast To Coast Tour

In their highly anticipated return to the road, The Blue Stones have announced a big summer tour that will visit cities and towns coast to coast. Hidden Gems is their second full-length release and you can expect to hear plenty of music from that and their debut album Black Holes. The Blue Stones are a dynamic rock and roll duo. The full sound coming from guitarist Tarek Jafar and Justin Tessier can be deceiving. Mainly because it sounds like there are twice as many if not more people in the group. On Hidden Gems, they teamed with Mutemath frontman Paul Meany. Sure, his band is awesome but he's gained an immense amount of respect in recent years as a producer too. Most notably for his work with Twenty One Pilots on their Trench album as well as the one-off single "Level of Concern...

Judah & The Lion Announce Headlining Fall Tour Dates

If you've been anxiously awaiting a tour announcement from Judah & The Lion, that wait is over. An extensive run of shows has been announced in support of their new studio album Revival. The tour kicks off September 8th at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Missouri and wraps up at the end of October in The Twin Cities at First Avenue. These dates are in addition to their highly anticipated performance at Bonnaroo on June 18th where they'll be playing alongside Tool, Flume and dozens of others. Revival is Judah & The Lion's fourth full length studio album and features the popular singles "Find Another Reason Why", "Take a Walk" and "HAPPY LIFE". It's their first album and major tour since the departure of founding member Nate Zuercher. Their most recent album Pep Talks was...

Highly Anticipated Biffy Clyro Tour Set To Kickoff This Week

It's been five years but Scottish rock icons Biffy Clyro are back in America for a series of high-octane concerts. After opening stadium dates for the likes of Foo Fighters and Muse, the band has earned a reputation for their impressive live shows. But it's not really about who they've opened up for, they've amassed a worldwide fan base on their own. Biffy Clyro's tour kicks off at the House of Blues in Chicago on Sunday. Highlights include shows at New York City's Irving Plaza, Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, and The Fillmore in San Franciso. If you've never heard of these guys and you're a fan of alt-rock anthems, it's time to get on the bus. Photo Credit: Kevin J. Thomson Their latest single "A Hunger in Your Haunt" is working its way up rock radio charts. But unfortunately,...

Dopapod Release “Black Holes”, Announce George Clinton Tour Dates

Progressive groove rockers Dopapod's brightest days are still ahead of them. Their forthcoming self-titled studio album featuring the new single "Black Holes" will be their seventh. Tickets are on sale now for their summer tour dates with the legendary George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Dopapod treats each of its albums as experiences meant to be shared out of your speakers, on stage, and in other creative ways. Sure, lots of bands have creative videos to accompany new music releases. Dopapod has taken that a step further and will be offering up a tabletop board game specifically created for this new album. Formed out of the Boston music scene, they incorporate elements of jam, funk, metal, and even a hint of Americana at times. The result is a unique style that has made the...

Meat Puppets Set For Live Album Release, Prep For Mudhoney Tour Dates

Things are heating up for iconic rockers The Meat Puppets. On May 6th, they're set to release a new live album Meat Puppets Live Manchester 2019. The following week they'll kick off a string of tour dates with Mudhoney. Our only complaint is that they won't be hitting more cities together. In 2019 The Meat Puppets hit the road with three original members. Curt Kirkwood (guitar), Cris Kirkwood (bass), and Derrick Bostrom (drums) were joined by Elmo Kirkwood (guitar) and Ron Stabinsky (keyboards). The tour was not without challenges. However, band leader Curt Kirkwood stated, "playing together night after night, listening to the music evolve, more than makes up for it". Live From The UK On tour, The Meat Puppets worked with videographer Yousef Sheikh. He and his crew captured t...
