Meat Puppets Set For Live Album Release, Prep For Mudhoney Tour Dates

Things are heating up for iconic rockers The Meat Puppets. On May 6th, they’re set to release a new live album Meat Puppets Live Manchester 2019. The following week they’ll kick off a string of tour dates with Mudhoney. Our only complaint is that they won’t be hitting more cities together.

In 2019 The Meat Puppets hit the road with three original members. Curt Kirkwood (guitar), Cris Kirkwood (bass), and Derrick Bostrom (drums) were joined by Elmo Kirkwood (guitar) and Ron Stabinsky (keyboards). The tour was not without challenges. However, band leader Curt Kirkwood stated, “playing together night after night, listening to the music evolve, more than makes up for it”.

Live From The UK

On tour, The Meat Puppets worked with videographer Yousef Sheikh. He and his crew captured the Manchester UK show on audio and video. Derek O’Brien of DOB Sound mixed the multi-track audio for the six-song limited-release vinyl album. You can expect updated versions of Meat Puppets classics. “Lake of Fire” and “Plateau” are mixed in with newer material like “Nine Pins” from their 2019 release Dusty Notes. Several video selections from the show were released on YouTube during the early days of the pandemic.

Meat Puppets are perhaps known for the 90s classic “Backwater“. However, we’d like to encourage everyone to check out some of their most recent material. “Nine Pins” for example, was a pleasant surprise. Admittedly not have spent much time with the bands’ catalog in recent years. Personally, I’m glad I stumbled on the song (and others) while doing my homework for this article.

Stay in touch with The Meat Puppets, you can visit their website for tour date information or follow along on Facebook and Instagram.

DID YOU KNOW: Nirvana was joined on stage at their famous MTV Unplugged performance by The Meat Puppets. Curt and Cris Kirkwood were welcomed on stage for covers of Meat Puppets classics “Lake of Fire“, “Plateau” and “Oh, Me“.
