Museum Of Light Drop “Soft Openings” Single

Seattle-based alt-rockers Museum of Light is prepping for the release of their debut album. After hearing their new single "Soft Openings", we can't wait to hear more from the band. Having just signed to Spartan Records, Horizon is set for release on June 10th. Museum of Light is made up of Ted Alverez on guitar and vocals, Rob Smith on drums, and Ezekiel Rudick on bass. Several things jumped out at me when listening to "Soft Openings". First of all, it was a one listen song, it didn't take much to get warmed up. Some tunes can take a few listens before I latch on to them. This one, I enjoyed right out of the gate. Second of all, I really enjoyed how they were able to balance both heavy and ambient tones. You can expect aggressive riffs mixing in with some dreamy vibes. Turns o...

HBO Doc Explores the Singular Focus of Tony Hawk (Review)

In the new HBO documentary 'Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off,' we spend time with the most famous skateboarder on the planet. We also see him at his most vulnerable. The film, directed by Sam Jones ('I Am Trying To Break Your Heart') and produced by Mark and Jay Duplass, begins with a sequence of groan-inducing failures. As the opening credits roll, we watch for nearly five full minutes as Hawk freefalls countless times while practicing a skate trick. It's hard to watch, mostly because I think we want to view celebrity athletes as invincible gods who cannot do anything wrong. When you see the man who is arguably the greatest to ever grace the sport having consistent difficulty while he pushes himself physically, it opens your eyes to just how challenging it is to pull off. It's...

Graeme James Contemplates Life’s Cycles On New Album Seasons

International indie-folk artist Graeme James has released a visually stunning music video to accompany his new single "All the Lives We Ever Lived". On his new album, the accomplished singer/songwriter takes listeners on a journey through the cycles of life. Seasons is available now everywhere you listen to music. Comprised of 12 new songs, Seasons is a concept album that starts with a spring theme and cycles through to winter. Not only did he produce the album, but he also played a majority of the instruments. While inviting friends to perform piano, horn, percussion, and some vocals, James took care of the rest himself. He got his start training as a classical violinist as a child. A series of injuries forced him to make other plans. James would earn a reputation as a talented st...

Judah & The Lion Are Back With New Album Revival In June

It's been nearly three years since the release of Judah & The Lion's last album. They return on June 10th with a new LP called. Revival. The result of their efforts in the studio is an album that shows off their growth as songwriters and performers. Revival was recorded at Echo Mountain in Ashville, North Carolina. Members Judah Akers and Brian Macdonald found themselves attempting to recapture the innocence of their youth through music. After undergoing a lineup change last year they approached the recording of the new album by inviting longtime friends and touring musicians into the fold. The experience solidified Akers' and Macdonalds' partnership as a songwriting duo and added an element of freedom to the process that had been missing in recent years. Much soul searchin...

12 Rock Videos On YouTube With More Than 1 Billion Views

Evanescence is the latest band to achieve a once-unthinkable milestone. "Bring Me To Live" has crossed the one billion view mark on YouTube. And we'd be lying if we said we weren't responsible for at least 267 of those views over the last few years. Here's a deeper dive where we take a look at 12 rock videos on YouTube that have been viewed more than a billion times. Sure bands like Bon Jovi and AC/DC have hit the mark but that's to be expected. Pop stars? Sure, a lot of them have more than a billion. And of course, in researching for this article we came across the fact that the first act to achieve this accomplishment was Psy with the phenomenon "Gangnam Style" (yes we can do the dance still). So congrats to Amy Lee and company from Evanescence, you've entered into a pretty e...

‘Jackass Forever’ is a Raucous Reunion (Review)

It has been over a decade since 'Jackass 3D' was unleashed on the world. Getting older when your career revolves around pranks and extreme stunts is not exactly ideal. But here we are, twelve years after the last film installment (we're not counting 'Bad Grandpa'). Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Weeman, and the whole Jackass crew are certainly older, but you'd be hard-pressed to call them wiser. In 'Jackass Forever,' the crew reassembles alongside new cast members Eric Manaka and Rachel Wolfson. We even get a few celebrity features from the likes of Machine Gun Kelly, Tyler the Creator, and Eric André, none of whom are spared from the often humiliating action. Machine Gun Kelly gets slapped down in 'Jackass Forever' (Paramount Pictures) Per usual, th...

Album Release: Dana Fuchs’ ‘Borrowed Time’ Drops April 29th

Accomplished blues-rocker Dana Fuchs is set to release her new studio album this spring. Borrowed Time will be out on Ruf Records on April 29th. On this, her eighth studio album, she leans heavily into her southern rock influences. You can expect 12 new songs inspired by experiences that influenced her at a very early age growing up in Florida. On Borrowed Time, Fuchs' signature voice evokes Janis Joplin's spirit with Mick Jagger's swagger. The album was recorded over eight days in a Michigan studio. Joining bandmates Jack Daley and Jon Diamond were guitarist/engineer Kenny Tudrick, drummer Todd Glass and keyboardist Jordan Champion. The band gelled and tracked everything live, never needing more than a few takes for each song. As a result, they captured a rootsy, Rolling Stone...

SXSW 2022 Film Dispatches, Vol. 3 (Reviews)

After having a few days to recover, I'm finally ready to close out my look at this year's SXSW Film Festival by featuring the best film I saw. To say it's been a crazy week or so around here is an understatement. Things wrapped up on Sunday with the last few premieres from Saturday screening online. Right after the majority of out-of-towners headed out of Austin, we were hit with an intense storm system that found tornadoes ripping through the area on Monday night. Over the course of the event, I watched 20 feature films. That feels like a lot to me, but I also have friends who attended who got closer to 40. All I can say in my defense is that I was also working a full-time job and still making time for viewing. Ultimately, I really enjoyed almost everything I saw, but the foll...

7 Lollapalooza Acts You Shouldn’t Miss

The lineup for the 2022 edition of Lollapalooza dropped and it's stacked from top to bottom. There's a little something for everyone with acts like Metallica, Dua Lipa, and Kygo all on the bill. What began as a farewell tour in 1991 for Jane's Addiction has morphed into a yearly event that simply can't be missed. The weekend-long show takes place at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois July 28-31. The massive park has been home to the festival since 2005. While tickets start at $350, festival organizers offered up a layaway plan that starts at just $19.99. Expensive? Yes. But worth it. For the purpose of our little article here, we wanted to focus less on the bands in big letters at the top of the bill and more on some of the deserving acts that appear a little further on down the poste...
