Now in its 12th year, DOC NYC kicked off over the weekend and is taking place now in a hybrid format. This means that if you're in New York City, there are still screenings happening with hundreds of special guests for Q&As and interviews. The good news is that wherever you are in the United States, you can can actually buy tickets for individual screenings and grab yourself a pass that will allow you to watch some of the best documentaries of the year from the comfort and safety of home. According to their website, for the last nine years, the festival has screened the film that went on to win the Best Documentary award at the Oscars. 24 of the last 25 Oscar nominees were also on recent lineups. Texas Blues-Rocker Ally Venable Set To Resume Tour Dates With Kenny Wayne Shepherd + Others

Ally Venable, 22-year old Texas blues-rocker, is making some waves on the road this fall with artists like Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram. She's on tour in support of her latest release Heart of Fire and the second leg is set to get underway. Written throughout the course of the pandemic, Venable entered Bessie Blue Studio in Tennessee with highly regarded producer Jim Gaines to lay it down. The resulting piece of music was released in February of 2021 and debuted on the Billboard Blues chart at #2. “My goal for this album was to give an outlet for people. That’s really where the core of these songs comes from…”Ally Venable Venable's path to the blues began by singing in church choirs as a kid. She was heavily influenced by artists from near wh...

Dead Sara Announce Initial Tour Dates Of 2022

One of our favorite bands around here at MendoWerks, Dead Sara is heading out on tour early in the new year with one of the world's most famous guitarists' side projects. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators is ramping up for dates in February. What we're trying to say here is, if you're going to the show, make sure you get in in time for Dead Sara. The nearly month-long jaunt will kick off in Portland, Oregon, and wrap in Denver, Colorado a few weeks later. The main issue I have here is that this tour doesn't cover more parts of the country. Ain't It Tragic is the latest studio album from Dead Sara and features the stand-out tracks "Hands Up," "Losing My Mind" and "Heroes". For a behind-the-scenes look at the recording of the album click here. Dead Sara f...

“Boulevard! A Hollywood Story” (Festival Review)

When Gloria Swanson took on the role of Norma Desmond in Billy Wilder's 1950 film "Sunset Boulevard," it was the epitome of perfect casting. The iconic character, much like the woman who was playing her, had been a superstar in the world of silent film. The advent of "talkies" really ruined both of their careers, but Swanson would have the last laugh. https://youtu.be/_dY0SVxnHjQ The performance found her, yet again, in the good graces of Hollywood (at least temporarily) when she was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. The film was such a lifesaver for Swanson that she wanted to find a way to extend its power. She turned to Dickson Hughes and Richard Stapley, two young songwriters who just so happened to be lovers at a time when that had to be kept tightly un...

PVRIS release explosive new single “Monster”

Alt-pop heavyweights PVRIS have returned with a new single and tour. The synth-driven 'Monster' is another big step on their journey after the release of the Use Me album last year. The new album is seen as part of the bands' evolution as frontwoman Lynn Gunn stepped forward as leader and architect of the project. She wrote, played all the instruments, and sang on all 11 songs. JT Daly aka K. Flay produced the project. PVRIS' nearly month-long US tour kicked off August 6 in Detroit and runs through a sold-out September 2 date at the Fonda Theater in LA. Royal and the Serpent will be opening up on most of these shows. 'Monster’ is a song about reckoning with outside opinions and expectations put upon oneself. It can be easy to take on the weight of negative situations/opinions,...
