Goo Goo Dolls Continue To Evolve With New Album ‘Chaos In Bloom’

Grammy-nominated mainstays Goo Goo Dolls are back with a brand new album. Chaos In Bloom is available everywhere you listen to music. The album marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band as it is the first to be produced by frontman John Rzeznik.

Recorded at Dreamland Studios outside of Woodstock, New York, Chaos In Bloom was recorded during the early days of the pandemic. The location, which is as remote as it is rich in historic rock music roots, proved to be the ideal setting. The album carries a live quality that the band captured by blending vintage instruments and gear with cutting-edge recording processes and techniques.

Embarrassing Interview Experience

Pre-MendoWerks I worked in commercial radio and started at the station circa 2000. Shortly after I got my first full-time gig I was able to earn the trust of my program director and was given the opportunity to interview John. The band was performing in town that night and we were helping to promote the show. It was only my second artist interview and needless to say I was very nervous.

He called the studio hotline and we were preparing to do the interview but I had one live break to cover before we recorded the interview for playback later in the show. Unfortunately, I inadvertently hit the wrong button and when I came back to conduct the interview he couldn’t hear anything I was saying. I could hear him fine but he couldn’t hear me. In the heat of the moment, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to rectify the situation. So ultimately John hung up on me and we were unable to reconnect.

So, John Rzeznik hung up on me and while I may not have gotten to host the interview, it was certainly a memorable experience. The show was a sellout, they did just fine without the promotional support.

On Tour With Blue October

Originally scheduled for 2020, the highly anticipated but twice postponed tour with Blue October is underway. Dates run through Saturday, September 24 when Goo Dolls perform a hometown show at Buffalo’s Keybank Center.

The band has partnered with the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation for the duration of the tour. The organization provides healing and education services to youth who have been exposed to violence. More information can be found here.
