The 1985 Kate Bush classic “Running Up That Hill” recently hit #1 on the iTunes chart. An impressive feat considering the song was released 37 years ago. The track saw a resurgence thanks to a sync placement in the popular Netflix show Stranger Things. Meg Myers covered the song in recent years so, that got us thinking. Which version do you prefer?
“Running Up That Hill” was the lead single from the 1985 Kate Bush album Hounds of Love. It was her first hit in the US since the late 1970s. As for how the song ended up in Stranger Things, Variety takes an informative deeper dive. But before you read, their article includes some spoilers. Four Different Versions of “Running Up That Hill’
Meg Myers released a cover of the song in March of 2019. While she’s not the only one to cover the popular track, she does have the most recent version so we’ll focus on that for for the purpose of our poll. If you’re curious, both Placebo and Within Temptation released versions of the song in 2003. Elastic Band released a remix version in the early 90s.
Myers was born in Nashville. She lived in Ohio and Florida before making the move to Los Angeles at age 20. She released her first EP Daughter in the Choir in 2012. Shortly thereafter she signed a deal with Atlantic Records. A string of successful singles like “Desire“, “Lemon Eyes“, and “Numb” followed. It was with “Running Up That Hill” that she achieved her first #1 song on the chart. Her latest release “HTIS” is available now.
