Canadian band Chief State is here to help usher in a pop-punk revival with the release of their new single “Team Wiped”. Along with the single drop we have details on the release of their debut full-length album. Waiting For Your Colours is set for a July 1st premiere on Mutant League Records.
Hailing from the Vancouver area, the album is a result of five years of hustle as a band. Waiting For Your Colours follows up the stand-alone single ‘Metaphors” from last year and the 2020 EP “Tough Love“. After spending time with each, the band has clearly taken a big step forward with “Team Wiped”. Not to say their previous efforts weren’t quality, it’s clear they’re growing as songwriters and production values have improved with this release.
Frontman Fraser Simpson who left his home in the UK in 2014, spent time in Japan before moving to North America. From there he connected with Nik Pang, Chris Kavanagh, Justin Pham, and Joseph Soderholm via Craigslist which led to the formations of Chief State. As far as any common threads on the album, Simpson said this.
There’s definitely a coming of age theme on the new album. We’re asking ourselves: What am I looking to get out of life, out of being in a band? What joys do I want to pursue and where do I want to place my energy moving forward?
Fraser Simpson
The band has earned a reputation for putting on a fun live show and has a number of quality original songs to tap into to keep energy levels high. It seems like pop-punk has been making a bit of a revival as of late so here’s to Chief State to help lead the charge.

“Team Wiped” Lyrics
Another day in this broken state
I’m getting sick of picking up everything that you break.
Three whole years, never once did you think there isn’t progress that we couldn’t make.
But I did. Yea I’ve been giving everything I had to give.
And now I’m starting to get tired of pulling all the wires.
Pulling all the wires.
This situation’s getting dire.
I’m moving on but I don’t know what I’m running from.
How did we get here?
It’s never been so clear.
But I’m trying not to disappear.
Now I’m mad almost every day
The stress always building inside my brain
Can somebody say if I’m going insane?
‘Cos it feels like I’m running in circles again.
All the things I should’ve said.
I’m moving on but I don’t know what I’m running from.
How did we get here?
It’s never been so clear.
But I’m trying not to disappear.
Now I’m starting over
I haven’t looked back since mid-November
So I’m moving on but I don’t know what I’m running from.
I think I need a reset
Spent far too long getting caught up in your web.
If only we could forget, if only we could forget.
I’m moving on but I don’t know what I’m running from.
How did we get here?
It’s never been so clear.
But I’m trying not to disappear.
