Popular actor, comedian, and musician Fred Armisen is a big music fan. He is set to advocate for Record Store Day this year after being named 2021 Ambassador. RSD started back in 2007 to help promote independent record shops. The day incentivizes music fans to come together by offering up lots of exclusive releases.
Normally the event takes place over two dates, one in April and the other on Black Friday in November. However, in the face of the pandemic, there have been some changes. This year you can expect two dates to come to fruition on June 12 and July 17. Armisen is in good company as Pearl Jam, Run The Jewels and Brandi Carlile have filled the role in recent years.
These are hugely important days for independent record shops so if you’re going to shop retail for music, these dates are the time to do it. You can link up with more information at the official Record Store Day website.
Armisen: Music Fan At A Young Age
Armisen’s parents started buying him albums around age 9 and have been a huge music fan ever since. According to a press release, he moved around a lot as a kid. But the passion for music endured. He had this to say about his support for music shops. ‘Whenever I travel to a different city, I make it a priority to visit at least one local record store. I feel like I haven’t truly been to a place until I’ve done a little record shopping there’.
SNL has been his most high-profile gig to date, but he’s kept busy. Armisen has also done great work as an actor and writer on the IFC comedy series Portlandia. He also earned a Grammy nomination for Standup for Drummers in 2019.
