On Repeat: The Intoxicating Feeling of Twenty One Pilots

When I was twelve, I really started to get into music. I started feeling it more than hearing it - emotions I didn't quite understand stirring in my chest, movement pulled from me by the chords and verses. I felt a connection to the artists I chose to put on, an invisible string tying them to me, tethered through relation. With that said, the first “alternative” band I got into was none other than Twenty One Pilots. The Intoxicating Feeling of Twenty One Pilots - A Reflection I used to have this app called Songza and that’s where I played my music from. On the app, there were playlists similar to Spotify that were sorted by genre or mood, resetting every day. I put one on shuffle, started cleaning my room, and let the music take me away. Album Review: Green Lung – ‘This Heathen Land’

Since their inception in 2017, London-based heavy metal quintet Green Lung have grown from a tiny underground band to a cult favorite and recent signee with one of the genre's most beloved labels, Nuclear Blast Records. Through their journey, they have gained some serious love from the heavy metal community, and that trend looks to continue with their third full-length release, This Heathen Land. Green Lung is likely to land on a lot of black t-shirt wearers' "Best of 2023" lists with their winning formula of tight, massive composition, excellent production, and their unique take on heavy metal's lyrical conventions. Occult Following A metal band using pagan religious imagery in their lyrics is not new, but it's the specific themes Green Lung draws inspiration from that make their wr...

From Ashes To New Bring the Apocalypse with ‘Blackout’

Today, Pennsylvania-based rap metal band, From Ashes To New, released a new concept album: Blackout. Musically, this new album sees the band continuing to refine the hybrid sound that sets them apart, while also building on the concepts found in their 2016 debut, Day One. If you’re someone who is looking for more of the band’s expert splicing of hard rock, metal, hip-hop, electronic and alternative music… you definitely need to give Blackout a few spins.  On the other hand, if you're new to the band, but love fresh-sounding music that can't be put into a neat little genre box... you also need to check this album out. After all, the album already has a Top 10-charting single (“Hate Me Too”), with another (“Nightmare”) well on its way.  Find the new album on Spotify, ...

THE HARA Challenge Mental Health Stigma with their Debut Album, ‘SURVIVAL MODE’

"Nobody talks about what it feels like to slowly get out of survival mode. There’s emotional withdrawals, moments of intense confusion, and so much grief that comes with seeing life as it truly is."- Dr. Nicole LePera, PHD Chronic stress takes a toll on us—that’s no secret. Since it’s currently Mental Health Awareness Month here in the United States, and we’ve entered year three of what could be considered mass exposure to a collective, global traumatic stressor, this might be a good time to talk a bit about mental health. As you know, MendoWerks Magazine isn’t run by mental health professionals, so we’re going to do what we do best—we’re going to talk about music. Specifically, we’re going to be digging into SURVIVAL MODE, the highly-anticipated debut album by THE HARA, which was releas...
