City Windows, the four-piece rock band hailing from San Diego, is back with their highly anticipated sophomore release Velvet Divorce. Building on the success of their debut album Oxbow, the band is going all-in on this new effort, self-releasing it on their own label Midwest Migration Records.
The album showcases the band’s growth and evolution as they weave together a tapestry of exploration. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Lyle Pavuk, brings a raw intensity to the record, laying a powerful foundation for the songs.
Bassist Sean Sullivan provides a driving, thunderous low-end tone that intertwines effortlessly with the melodies. Ryan Steele, handling vocal and lead guitar duties, delivers tasteful playing and blistering solos. And Aaron Weislogel, the powerhouse drummer, delivers a relentless beat that propels the music forward.
Finding Inspiration
Drawing inspiration from punk rock and hardcore, Velvet Divorce features a blend of classic and modern influences. The album takes listeners on a fun ride, from anthemic choruses that invite sing-alongs to introspective slower cuts that captivate with emotion.
One of the band’s strengths lies in their ability to craft both infectious hooks and thought-provoking, socially conscious lyrics. Throughout the album, they explore themes of politics, big pharma, love, loss, and self-discovery, offering honest reflections on the human experience and providing a cathartic release for both the band and their audience.
City Windows has been honing its craft since 2018, earning a reputation for delivering energetic and engaging shows. Fans in and around Southern California can look forward to new show announcements later this year.
Their first single, “The Price to Pay,” confronts the lack of accountability and corruption in the United States government, urging the people to unite and elect leaders who are responsive to their needs and willing to reform institutions to better reflect the true will of the people.
