The Foo Fighters have announced a new greatest hits collection and there’s no shortage of material to choose from. In the wake of the tragic passing of long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins, the 19-song album will be available on October 28th on Sony Legacy Records.
Nirvana disbanded in 1994 after the death of Kurt Cobain. From there, Dave Grohl fielded offers to play drums with a number of high-profile acts. Instead, he entered Robert Lang Studios in Shoreline, Washington, and recorded what would become the Foo Fighters’ debut album.
This led to a storied career that included 10 studio albums, sold-out tours, a few documentaries, and even a mockumentary. The band has amassed an impressive 15 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
Taylor Hawkins Tribute
The unexpected passing of accomplished drummer Taylor Hawkins in March of ’22 shocked music fans around the world. The impact on those closest to him was immeasurable. To celebrate his memory, two large-scale tribute shows were announced.
The Wembly Stadium show was filled with unique performances and collaborations. Including an iconic moment when Hawkins’ son Shane performed on drums with the band during a rousing rendition of “My Hero“. If you missed the more than five-hour U.K. concert, it’s now streaming on Paramount+.
The U.S. tribute show will take place on September 27th at The Forum in Los Angeles. Superstars like Geddy Lee & Alex Lifesong (Rush), Liam Gallagher (Oasis), Stewart Copeland (Police), Joan Jett, and dozens of others are expected to appear to pay homage.
