Mike Wheeler, the acclaimed Nashville-based singer, songwriter and performer, who is also a member of BERTHA: Grateful Drag, will perform on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Transparent Clinch Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ.
Wheeler, called, “the kind of road dog troubadour of yore” by Maximum Volume Music, is originally from Vermont. He has established a firm foothold in modern music with a resume that includes work with Todd Smallie of Derek Trucks Band and JJ Grey & Mofro fame; Sierra Ferrell; and members of Sturgill Simpson’s band. Wheeler has opened for James Taylor and Jackson Browne; and has taken the stage at the Newport Folk Festival and Jam Cruise. He has also worked with Daniel Donato.
Wheeler’s gig in Asbury this weekend will mark a return to the Jersey Shore for him. He and his BERTHA: Grateful Drag band mates performed at the 2024 edition of the Sea.Hear.Now Surf, Music and Art Festival in Asbury Park, which was co-founded by photographer Danny Clinch, operator of the Transparent Clinch Gallery.
Clinch is an esteemed photographer well-known for his compelling images of Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Green Day and Phish. Any Bruce Springsteen fan is familiar with Clinch’s timeless work—Clinch has photographed The Boss often and captured the cover images for multiple albums, including “The Rising” and “Letter to You.”
Transparent Clinch Gallery is a cultural hub and catalyst for community empowerment that continues to drive, nurture and sustain Asbury Park’s artistic and municipal renaissance following years of civic decline. Located a block from the boardwalk and beach, Transparent Clinch Gallery harnesses the power of live music, photography and the creative spirit to ignite the sparks of a seaside community that has long celebrated the triumphs of its artistic community members, be they world-famous personalities, local celebrities or complete unknowns.
Mike Wheeler is set to take the Transparent Clinch Gallery stage at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October. 11. The Gallery is at 210 5th Ave., Asbury Park, NJ. Suggested $10 minimum donation is encouraged at the door. Visit transparentclinchgallery.com and mike-wheeler.net for information.
