Of Monsters and Men Return with ‘Ordinary People’ After Years of Silence

Of Monsters and Men have officially returned, breaking a years-long silence with the release of their new single, “Ordinary Creature.” It’s a gentle, introspective track shaped by late-night studio sessions in Iceland, where the band recorded and produced it themselves. The result is a dreamy meditation on healing, presence, and rediscovery—delivering the kind of emotional nuance fans have come to expect from the Icelandic indie-folk mainstays.

“Ordinary Creature is about the feeling of yearning for that someone that brings you comfort,” the band shared. “It’s about when you start feeling better after a period of not feeling so great—that moment when you start coming back to yourself again.”

Music Video

The song arrives with a cinematic music video directed by Erlendur Sveinsson. Shot during a quiet summer night in the coastal town of Selvogur, the video captures the band biking through sleepy streets and early morning light. It’s atmospheric, tender, and pairs seamlessly with the tone of the track.

“Ordinary Creature” also marks the first glimpse of All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade, the band’s first full-length album in six years, set for release on October 17, 2025. The album explores emotional duality—joy and sorrow, love and loss—with deeply personal storytelling rooted in community, family, and the generations that shaped the band. Co-singer Nanna Hilmarsdóttir calls the “Mouse Parade” a metaphor for shared history, a thread of memory that connects past and present.

Of Monsters and Men rose to global fame with 2011’s My Head Is An Animal, powered by their breakout hit “Little Talks.” The band’s cinematic, emotionally resonant sound has since landed them on major festival stages and in beloved film and TV projects. After their 2019 album Fever Dream and the 2022 documentary tíu, the band took time away for solo and side projects—but now they’re back, renewed and ready for the next chapter.

All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade is out October 17. “Ordinary Creature” is streaming now.
