Multi-platinum Grammy Award-winning artist, Mike Shinoda, best known as co-frontman of Linkin Park, has just dropped his latest single, “Already Over.” What sets this release apart is that Shinoda not only wrote and recorded the track but also lent his vocals and played every instrument. The song harks back to the signature sound he pioneered with Linkin Park, featuring kinetic live drums, gritty distorted guitar, and his unique vocal delivery.

Accompanying the single is a frenetic hand-painted visual video, crafted by Dusty Deen. The footage includes images contributed by legendary photographer Mike Miller. You can check out the video below and listen to “Already Over” everywhere you stream music.

Shinoda Shares His Thoughts

Shinoda shared his thoughts on the track, stating, “‘Already Over’ came to me as I was sitting with my favorite guitar in my hands—the same guitar I used on songs from ‘What I’ve Done’ to ‘In My Head.’ There was a familiar DNA to the song that I think Linkin Park fans will recognize. For me, it creates a bridge from the past to a blurry but exciting future.”

What’s unique about this release is the interactive engagement with fans. Shinoda initiated the campaign with cryptic mood images, followed by scattered song snippets for fans to piece together. Unreleased stickers, available only from Shinoda in person, began surfacing, and an online game teasing a sci-fi horror narrative on MikeShinoda.com is set to launch next week.

Shinoda explains, “In the bigger picture, this release takes some of my favorite things about releasing music and assembles them in a different way—with more music, games, challenges, great things to watch, and lots of new art on the way.”

2023: On Point

2023 has seen a renaissance for both Mike Shinoda and Linkin Park, with successful music releases, content, and fan engagement. The 20th Anniversary Edition of “Meteora” reached the top spot on multiple Billboard charts, with the single “Lost” becoming the biggest rock song of the year and marking their highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 entry in a decade.

Shinoda has earned three Grammy Awards for his solo work and contributions to Linkin Park and Fort Minor. His philanthropic work includes serving as a Community Innovation Advisor for Warner Music Group and co-founding the charity Music for Relief, which has raised millions for various causes.
