Power-pop/emo rockers Cape Crush is set to make waves with the upcoming release of their debut EP. The band consists of Ali Lipman on guitar and vocals, James Christopher on guitar, Jake Letizia on bass, and Cody Rico on drums. Its highly anticipated EP San Souci drops on April 14 via Ancient Injury Records.
The title track, “San Souci,” is now available for streaming on all platforms, along with an accompanying lyric video. The track deals with the bittersweet emotions of leaving behind people and places you’ve learned to love. But then begrudgingly have to say goodbye. Cape Crush is known for its catchy hooks, relatable lyrics, and high-energy performances, and this EP promises to be no exception.
The Formation of Cape Crush
The band’s formation dates back to the winter of 2021 when James Christopher approached Ali Lipman about starting a new project. The two share musical influences like The Get Up Kids and The Weakerthans. From there they started writing songs that explored themes of heartbreak, hardship, and change. They were later joined by Jake Letizia on bass and Cody Rico on drums. The new additions both of whom influenced the overall sound of Cape Crush with their love of emo music.
The EP, recorded at God City Music in Salem, MA, is a collection of six songs that showcase the band’s infectious energy and heartfelt lyricism. “Sandwich Wars,” another single from the EP, will be available on streaming platforms in the coming weeks. The track pays homage to the age-old rivalry between Philly cheesesteaks and New England’s roast beef three-way.
Here’s What To Look For On San Souci
Other tracks on the EP include “Sunny & Boone,” a poignant reflection on the feelings of homesickness and growing apart from friends, and “Del Water Gap,” a raw and emotional exploration of addiction and its impact on relationships.
Cape Crush has already earned a dedicated following with its infectious energy and relatable lyrics. Keep your eye out for the new EP this April. Stay connected with Cape Crush by following along on their Instagram.
