A Relatable Tale: Let’s Watch the Music Video for “Alcohol You Now” by Jim Camacho

A musical legend returns – earlier this month, Jim Camacho released a new single, “Alcohol You Now,” via Dark Spark Music. In even more exciting news, the music video for this song just dropped today. With this new single, Jim Camacho combines his storytelling prowess with extraordinary Americana vibes, resulting in a song that captures the feeling of ‘having a few brews with the boys and getting into some trouble’ to a Twisted Tea… get it?

Even if this isn’t your usual genre of choice, I highly recommend checking this song out. I would especially recommend checking out the music video, which only adds to the great chaotic energy of the whole ordeal. The video also has a lot of charm, and features great cameos throughout.

You can watch the video for “Alcohol You Now” on YouTube, below.

Presented as a tongue-in-cheek kind of stream of consciousness, “Alcohol You Now” meanders through the speaker’s experience of drunk dialing the object of his desire, despite multiple friends’ objections and other comical deterrents. If you’ve not yet had an experience like this before, then you’re in luck – Jim Camacho and his collaborators crafted a kooky-yet-relatable and entertaining retelling of said experience.

Just go ahead and listen to it – I don’t want to spoil all the fun.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at “Alcohol You Now” by Jim Camacho

According to Jim Camacho, “Alcohol You Now” was inspired by a memorable song-writing session that utilized a 30-minute songwriting technique from his YouTube series, “Adventures in Songwriting”.

He explains, “We set the timer and started writing. Very quickly we stumbled upon the ‘drunk dial’ concept, and we couldn’t stop laughing as we brought the song to life. We knew right away that this track would be a fun one for listeners, and I’m thrilled that it’s now ready to be shared with the world.”

Honestly, I’m thrilled it’s been shared with us, too.

The Music Video Has Some Great Lore, Too.

Camacho explains, “The making of the ‘Alcohol You Now’ music video was a collaborative journey between all the individuals involved, and as a result, all the stars seemed to align.”

“Working closely with Juan Davila from Two-Way Creative — a trusted collaborator and my favorite director — we created a fun concept that centered around a poor, unfortunate character and his misbegotten attempts at drunk dialing his would-be sweetheart and the misadventures that followed. We were lucky to enlist veteran actor Ken Clement as the lead.”

There were other significant additives included as well. “We were honored to have the song’s producer, John Carter Cash, make a cameo appearance in the role of Cephus. The video also includes the late John Tovar, playing a comical recipient of one drunken, ill-fated text.”

And for all of you familiar with Miami… yes, that’s the Duffy’s Tavern.

A Musical Legend

Generally, I don’t like to use the word ‘legend’ in my writing… But I am definitely comfortable making an exception for Jim Camacho. He’s had one hell of a career so far – here’s but a few points:

  • Camacho first started to gain attention when he co-founded Miami rock band, The Goods, with his brother. The Goods went on to release five albums, and they made headlines in the Miami Herald and on TV news for their public display of AIDS activism. The Goods even had a documentary made about them.
  • His solo career includes multiple critically-acclaimed albums including Trouble Doll, Stalker Songs, and Beachfront Defeat (which he recently reissued). He’s toured with Alicia Keys and John Legend; he has shared the stage with Pearl Jam and others.
  • Camacho’s work has been widely featured on the stage and screen. He’s written several original musicals as well as had his recorded music featured in multiple soundtracks for film and TV.
