Cage The Elephant Open Bold New Chapter With “Beaches In Tennessee”

After a two-year break from releasing new music, Cage The Elephant are back with “Beaches In Tennessee,” a reflective new single that marks the beginning of the band’s partnership with Big Loud Rock and signals a fresh creative era.

The Kentucky rock veterans have built a reputation for constantly evolving, and “Beaches In Tennessee” continues that tradition. Rather than relying on dense production, the band opted for a stripped-down approach that lets the song’s emotional core take center stage.

Inspired by Real-Life Experience

Frontman Matt Shultz says the song was inspired by his recovery following a mental health crisis that led to a lengthy hospitalization. While the lyrics present a fictionalized account, the emotions behind them are deeply personal.

Shultz explains that writing “Beaches In Tennessee” became a way to reclaim difficult experiences through music while finding hope in the process. The chorus, built around the line “Somebody take me home,” reflects themes of healing, gratitude, and perspective.

A New Creative Partnership

The single was produced by Justin Raisen and SADPONY (Jeremiah Raisen), whose previous work includes projects with Charli XCX, SZA, Kim Gordon, and Yves Tumor.

According to guitarist Brad Shultz, the collaboration brought fresh energy into the studio. The band focused on capturing spontaneous performances rather than overproducing the recordings, resulting in a song that feels immediate and authentic.

Looking Ahead

The band’s renewed momentum comes after touring with Oasis on the Live ’25 tour. Instead of taking time off after the tour wrapped, Cage The Elephant headed directly back into the studio.

More than twenty years after forming in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the six-piece continues to reinvent itself. With multiple GRAMMY Awards, thirteen No. 1 Alternative radio singles, billions of streams, and a catalog that spans modern rock classics, the group shows no signs of slowing down.

If “Beaches In Tennessee” is any indication, Cage The Elephant’s next chapter promises the same fearless songwriting and creative ambition that have defined the band from the beginning.
